Important: BITSAT follows the old NCERT syllabus, the pre 2024 edition, unlike JEE, so you'll need to cover the extra syllabus yourself.

For PCM, the approach is similar to JEE, but:

• Complete the majority of the syllabus, 85%+ to stay safe, using one shots and NCERT.

We recommend a JEE first, dual focus strategy. It naturally prepares you for MHT-CET too. MHT-CET is a more direct, formula and memory based test, and the deep conceptual work JEE demands automatically covers its core syllabus.

Prioritising JEE keeps national college options open without hurting your MHT-CET prep, since the core PCM concepts are shared. It's the more comprehensive path either way.

There's no universal answer. It depends on your target colleges and branches, how much time you have left and how your prep is actually going right now, not how you wish it was going.

A simple way to think about it:

• If your JEE prep is genuinely on track (180+ marks in full mocks), keep JEE as your primary focus. It naturally covers most of BITSAT and the CETs too.
• If your JEE scores have consistently been below where you need them and you're short on time, a dual focus with BITSAT or your state CET can get you into an equally strong college with better odds.
• If you're from Maharashtra, MHT-CET is a strong safety net regardless of your JEE trajectory, since the syllabus overlap is huge and it doesn't cost much extra prep time.

If you're unsure where you stand, that's usually a sign to look honestly at your recent mock scores rather than your gut feeling about them.

Class notes, NCERT, Coaching Module and/or Reference Book, Test Series, Short notes and PYQs.

NCERT is your base. Coaching modules are a great combination of most reference books in the market. Solving one properly, even twice, means you've already covered a huge chunk of other sources and PYQs.

Reference books (any well known book works)

• Chemistry: PYQs Book, MS Chouhan and/or Himanshu Pandey for Organic Chemistry, JD Lee for Inorganic Chemistry, Narendra Awasthi for Physical Chemistry

You must target a minimum of cutoff plus 15 as a safe score for the upcoming year.

For example, if your target is BITS Hyderabad BE Mechanical, whose cutoff is 214, target 229+ in your BITSAT attempt.

JEE Main

• 75 questions in 180 minutes, free movement between subjects.
• Physics: 25 questions, 20 MCQ and 5 numerical. Chemistry: 25 questions, 20 MCQ and 5 numerical. Maths: 25 questions, 20 MCQ and 5 numerical.
• Marking: +4 correct, -1 wrong, 0 unattempted. Total: 300 marks.

MHT-CET

• Split into 2 papers, no free movement, 150 questions in 180 minutes.
• Paper 1, Physics: 50 questions, Chemistry: 50 questions (10 from 11th and 40 from 12th each). Marking: +1 correct, 0 wrong or unattempted.
• Paper 2, Maths: 50 questions (10 from 11th and 40 from 12th). Marking: +2 correct, 0 wrong or unattempted. Total: 200 marks.

In short, JEE Main rewards depth and MHT-CET rewards speed and memory.

With 150 questions in 180 minutes, you get just 0.8 to 1.2 minutes per question, far less breathing room than JEE or BITSAT. Give at least 8 to 10 relevant mocks before your final attempt, and actually analyse each one to improve with every try.

Honestly, search the topic on YouTube and skim a few videos to find which teacher's style suits you. The content itself is largely the same across creators.

• CS/IT: extremely competitive, COEP closes around 99.9+ percentile, VJTI and SPIT around 99.6+.
• Circuital branches such as Electronics and Electrical: VJTI and COEP typically close around 99.0 to 99.5+ percentile.
• Any branch entry cutoff: VJTI and COEP around 96.0 to 97.0 percentile, SPIT around 98.0 percentile overall.
• ICT Mumbai, Chemical Engineering: around 99.0 to 99.5+ percentile, even less popular branches sit around 95 to 96 percentile.

This is one of the most common doubts we see and there's no shame in asking it. Shifting focus at the right time is a strategic decision, not giving up.

Signs it might be time to consider a shift:

• You're within 2 months of JEE Main and your mock scores aren't improving.
• You've realistically assessed your JEE percentile range and it doesn't match the colleges or branches you're aiming for.
• You're spending disproportionate time on JEE only questions instead of solidifying the fundamentals that also carry BITSAT and the CETs.

The good news is that since the core PCM concepts are shared across all these exams, a shift is rarely a start from zero situation. It's usually a shift in what level of questions you practise and how many mocks you prioritise. See our exam specific 'how to shift focus' answers for the exact steps.

You need roughly 45 days for solid enough prep to secure a seat at any BITS Pilani campus.

• Step 1: One shots from YouTube for chapter basics and problem-solving understanding.
• Step 2: Phodu BITSAT Question Bank or your coaching module questions, up to JEE Main level.
• Step 3: Once you've covered 60% of the syllabus, start writing mocks, a minimum of 10, to build real exam temperament.
• Step 4: Make short notes and a formula sheet, and revise them daily.

Refer to Phodu Club's handwritten notes if you need a shortcut through theory.

• Maths: Calculus (Integration and Differentiation) is non-negotiable, along with Three Dimensional Geometry, Trigonometric Functions and Vectors.
• Physics: 12th carries higher weightage, focus on Electrostatics, Magnetic Effects of Electric Current and Electromagnetic Induction, plus Kinetic Theory of Gases and Rotational Motion from 11th.
• Chemistry: Chemical Thermodynamics and Kinetics, p-Block, d-Block and f-Block elements, Solutions and Colligative Properties, and organic named reactions from Alcohols, Phenols, Ethers, Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids.

Nailing just these chapters can get you roughly 50% (100 marks), and a 94-95 percentile is realistically achievable in 3 to 4 months with focused practice.

Longer isn't the goal, focused is. Most students who say they study 12 hours are actually deep focused for 4 to 5 of them and coasting through the rest.

A few things that actually move the needle:

• Study in focused blocks of 60 to 90 minutes, followed by a real 10 to 15 minute break, not a scroll your phone break, an actual break.
• Build your study hours gradually. Jumping from 3 hours a day to 10 overnight usually backfires within a week.
• Protect your sleep. Cutting sleep to add hours almost always costs you more in lost focus than it gives you in extra time.
• Track hours that were genuinely focused, not just hours you sat at your desk. Be honest with yourself here.

The syllabus overlap is huge, MHT-CET is roughly 80% weighted toward Class 12, so mastering board level theory and derivations naturally builds your CET base too.

Build conceptual understanding from NCERT or State Board textbooks first, then move from descriptive board style questions into MCQs and PYQs for the same chapter, letting theory flow directly into application.

A phased schedule that works

• Till around February: 75 to 80% of time on board focused prep, detailed answers, diagrams and writing skills.
• During board exam month: full focus on descriptive papers.
• Post boards: around 90% of time on MHT-CET, mocks, speed drills, mistake analysis and rapid formula revision.

160+ marks is generally considered safe for premier institutes like VJTI, COEP and SPIT, translating to roughly 99.5+ percentile and a rank in the top 1,000.

Expected marks to percentile (based on recent trends, varies yearly)

• 170+ marks: 99.90 to 99.99 percentile
• 160 marks: 99.50 to 99.90 percentile
• 150 marks: 99.00 to 99.50 percentile
• 140 marks: 98.00 to 99.00 percentile
• 130 marks: 97.00 to 98.00 percentile
• 120 marks: 96.00 to 97.00 percentile

Revision often matters more than syllabus completion, since there's no point moving forward if you're not retaining what's behind you.

Short notes are the fastest way to revise a chapter. Write theory in condensed form and specifically log the questions you got wrong so you can revisit them quickly.

Build a proper revision schedule and stick to it as seriously as you'd stick to new syllabus. It deserves the same priority.

Turning these into audio notes to listen to on the go can also be a genuine game changer for retention.

Based on BITS Pilani's FY 2025-26 placement data, the average salary came in at ₹23.8 LPA with a median of ₹20 LPA.

International offers, mainly from the Middle East and Asia, jumped 125%.

Close to 1,980 placements were secured this year, up over 20%, across nearly 500 unique recruiters, with several new names added this year across semiconductors, GCCs and IT.

• Format: 75 questions in 3 hours for JEE Main, 130 questions in 3 hours for BITSAT.
• Time per question: around 4 minutes in JEE Main, around 1.5 minutes in BITSAT.
• Difficulty: JEE Main sits at 10 out of 10, BITSAT closer to 7 out of 10.
• Focus: JEE Main rewards concept clarity, BITSAT rewards speed and accuracy.

Paper 1, around 1 minute per question: Chemistry is more theory driven, Physics needs calculation and logic. Of the 90 minutes, aim for roughly 25 to 30 minutes on Chemistry and 45 to 50 on Physics, saving the rest for questions you skipped.

Paper 2, around 2 minutes per question: Maths needs more logic and calculation, 1.5 to 2 minutes per question is usually enough. Don't get stuck past 2 minutes, move on and come back later.

The best way to internalise this rhythm is through mocks under the same pattern. Attempt at least 5 before your final exam.

This is frustrating, and it's also one of the most fixable problems if you diagnose it honestly instead of just writing more mocks and hoping.

Ask yourself:

• Are you actually reviewing your mistakes after each mock, or just checking the score and moving on? A mistake you don't analyse will repeat itself.
• Is your syllabus actually complete, or are stagnant scores just reflecting gaps you haven't closed yet?
• Are you giving mocks back to back without revising in between? More mocks without revision usually just cements the same errors.
• Are you exhausted? Stagnant scores are sometimes a burnout signal, not a knowledge gap.

Start a simple mistake log: every wrong answer, why you got it wrong and the correct approach. Revisit it weekly. This alone tends to move stagnant scores more than any new resource will.

For most B.E. programmes, except Environmental and Sustainability Engineering, and M.Sc. programmes, except Biological Sciences, you need:

• Completed 12th grade under the 10+2 system from a recognised board.
• Minimum five subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, one language and one additional subject.
• An aggregate of 75% marks in PCM, with at least 60% in each subject individually, theory and practical both count.

For B.Pharm, B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering and M.Sc. Biological Sciences, it's the same structure but with Biology in place of, or alongside, Maths, meaning PCB, with the same 75% aggregate and 60% individual thresholds.

One more condition to keep in mind: you must be appearing for 12th in 2026 or have passed it in 2025. If you've attempted 12th more than once, only your latest attempt counts.

Since most students focus primarily on JEE, and MHT-CET sits a level below it, solving up to JEE Main level is a strong strategy.

• Chemistry: coaching module, any PYQ book, and MS Chouhan or Himanshu Pandey for Organic, Narendra Awasthi for Physical, NCERT exemplar for Inorganic
• Maths: coaching module and any PYQ book

Don't skip the Maharashtra State Board HSC textbooks, especially for memory based topics that directly boost your speed in the exam.

Focus first on the easy and medium scoring chapters. They carry more weight than they seem to.

High yield chapters by PYQ trend

• Physics: Current Electricity, Electrostatics, Magnetic Effects of Electric Current, Ray Optics, Modern Physics
• Maths: Conic Section, Vector Algebra, 3D Geometry, Sequence and Series, Permutation and Combination, Binomial Theorem, Matrices and Determinants
• Chemistry: Atomic Structure, Coordination Compounds, Chemical Bonding, General Organic Chemistry, Isomerism, Solutions, S-Block, Thermodynamics, Periodic Table, P-Block, and don't skip organic name reactions

These chapters alone are typically 40 to 45% of the paper.

COEP Tech Pune, VJTI Mumbai, SPIT Mumbai, SPCE Mumbai, ICT Mumbai, PICT Pune, Walchand College of Engineering Sangli and Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering Mumbai.

These are the top colleges of Maharashtra.

A bit of both, honestly. Individual questions in BITSAT are often a notch simpler than JEE Main, especially since it follows the older NCERT syllabus and rarely goes as deep as JEE Advanced level. That part of the reputation is fair.

Where the 'it's easy' myth falls apart is the time pressure. You're solving 130 questions in 3 hours, which is roughly 1.4 minutes per question on average, tighter than JEE Main. A lot of students walk in expecting an easier paper, get thrown off by the pace and end up scoring worse than they would have on a harder but more familiar JEE paper.

So treat BITSAT as a speed and temperament test, not a knowledge test. Prepare accordingly: timed practice, at least 10 relevant mocks and comfort with moving fast without losing accuracy. Underestimating it on the assumption that it's easier is the single biggest reason students who are otherwise well prepared for JEE don't perform to potential here.

This one deserves an honest answer, not a quick one, because it's genuinely different for every student.

A few things worth being honest with yourself about before deciding:

• Your trajectory, not just your score. Were your mocks actually improving through the year, or flat throughout? A late dip after a strong run is different from a year of consistently underwhelming results.
• Why the unexpected result happened. Was it a gap in effort, a gap in strategy or something outside your control such as health, family situation or a syllabus you genuinely didn't get to? A drop only helps if the reason is fixable with another year.
• Your mental state. A drop year is hard on its own terms, with isolation from your batch, added pressure and a full year riding on one outcome again. Be honest about whether you're doing this because you want to, or because it feels like the only acceptable option to people around you.
• What you'd actually be giving up. Compare your current options seriously against what a drop realistically buys you. Sometimes a BITSAT or CET seat this year at a good college is a better outcome than a marginally better JEE rank next year.

Talk this through with someone who'll be honest with you, ideally a mentor or senior rather than only family, since family conversations often carry pressure that clouds the actual decision. And if you do drop, treat it as a full strategy reset, not just doing the same thing again but harder.

Up to two times. BITSAT runs in two sessions, Session 1 in April and Session 2 in May, and you can choose to appear in either or both. If you appear twice, the higher of your two scores is what counts for admission, so there's genuinely no downside to attempting both if you can.

First, don't treat distraction as a character flaw. It's usually a sign that either your study environment makes distraction too easy, or you're burnt out and your brain is looking for an escape.

Practical fixes:

• Keep your phone physically outside the room during focused study blocks, not just on silent next to you.
• Use app blockers during study hours if social media is the main pull. It removes the willpower requirement entirely.
• Study with people, in person or in a community, who are also heads down. Accountability works better than willpower alone.
• If you notice distraction spiking for days in a row, check if it's actually burnout. The fix there is rest, not more discipline.

• Physics: stay formula oriented, most questions are single formula type, so calculation speed matters more than raw difficulty.
• Chemistry: lean on HSC textbook theory for organic name reactions, and for physical chemistry combine textbook theory with formulae, similar to your Physics approach.
• Maths: it's lengthier relative to the time given, so practise board textbook numericals, and older JEE Main PYQs can help too.

Until your first JEE Main attempt, stay focused on JEE. After that attempt, shift to board PYQs and close out any remaining theory gaps. Solve as many board mock papers as you can, since a lot of questions repeat.

While preparing for your first attempt, keep reading the relevant NCERT chapters alongside. It helps you recognise question patterns for boards too. Most importantly, don't stop studying after your first JEE attempt just because boards are approaching.

Note: this applies if you've already been preparing for JEE Mains. If you haven't started yet, prioritise boards first. A strong board score of 75%+ matters for eligibility criteria.

BITS Pilani gives out a solid number of merit and need-based scholarships, mostly as tuition fee waivers:

• Merit-based: top 2% of students get a 100% tuition fee waiver, the next 1% get 50%.
• Merit-cum-need based: top 5% get 100%, next 2% get 50%, next 5% get 25%, and the next 10% get 10%.
• Top 500 students of BITSAT 2027 will also receive a 100% scholarship on tuition fee.

About 30% of admitted students end up receiving some form of financial assistance even before classes start. These awards are given per semester and continue in later semesters based on academic performance and continued need, so it's not a one-time thing you can coast on.

Allocate more time to Maths given its weightage, but don't neglect the other two. Keep a clear, consistent schedule across all three.

Build real conceptual clarity in Calculus, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Trigonometry and Probability rather than memorising formulas. These are the base for everything else. Practise a wide range of questions, solve PYQs to understand patterns, and time yourself strictly to build speed under pressure.

• Step 1: Prioritise full syllabus completion over just the 'important' JEE chapters. Every chapter carries equal weight in BITSAT.
• Step 2: Work through a relevant BITSAT specific book. We built the Phodu BITSAT Question Bank around our own and our students' actual BITSAT experience.
• Step 3: Regularly give mocks to adapt your paper attempting strategy. BITSAT rewards a different rhythm than JEE.
• Step 4: Prioritise accuracy. The marking scheme of +3/-1 punishes wrong answers harder than JEE does.

This is one of the most common things we hear, and almost every senior who's cleared these exams has gone through the same spiral at some point.

A couple of reframes that genuinely help:

• Rank lists show the result, not the process. You're comparing your rough draft to someone else's final published version. You don't see their failed mocks, their bad months or the help they had along the way.
• Compare yourself to your own past self, not to a topper. The only comparison that tells you anything useful is whether you're better than you were a month ago. That's the only trend actually in your control.
• Use toppers as a reference, not a scoreboard. If someone's doing well, it's worth asking what they're doing differently that you could try, rather than just feeling worse about the gap.

If the demotivation is sticking around for weeks rather than passing in a day or two, take it seriously and talk to someone you trust. Prolonged demotivation often needs a proper reset such as rest, a lighter week or a conversation with a mentor, rather than just willpower.

Start with your strongest subject to build early momentum and confidence. Alternatively, use a skim and sort approach, passing through the paper multiple times, solving easy questions first, then medium, then hard. Either way, the goal is the same, bank correct answers early and avoid panic setting in.

JEE is the primary focus for most aspirants, but your real goal should be getting the best outcome for yourself, which sometimes means widening your options.

Take an honest look at where you stand and decide early. Waiting too long to explore these can mean losing out on options that are genuinely better than what JEE alone would have gotten you.

Yes. If you've completed 12th in 2026 and want to reappear for improvement in specific subjects, that's allowed as long as the improved results come in before the submission deadline, tentatively June 1, 2026. The only condition: your 'Pass' status must remain unchanged after the improvement attempt or a repeat of Grade 12.
